HERO
Our HERO program is based on the higher order concept of Psychological Capital (PsyCap).
PsyCap expands the notion of an organisation’s ‘capital’, whereby economic capital is what the organisation owns, human capital is the skills and knowledge it has, social capital is who it knows, and PsyCap is who the employee is or is becoming, or their future potential.
PsyCap aims to deliver positive work-related outcomes beneficial to organisations and individuals. Evidence suggests that PsyCap is significantly related to desired employee behaviours, such as positive attitudes, commitment, job satisfaction, and performance, and negatively related to undesired behaviours. Research also indicates that PsyCap contributes to combatting stress and mediates the relationship between supportive organisational climate and employee performance and improves organisational change outcomes.

PsyCap contains the four constructs of hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism (HERO). Research shows that when these four constructs are delivered together, they integrate and deliver a higher return than when individually delivered. PsyCap has been associated with benefits such as higher levels of job satisfaction, commitment and performance.
Our HERO program includes the four constructs of hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism:
- hope is the process of thinking about our goals, and the ways to achieve those goals
- efficacy is an individual’s confidence in their ability to harness the motivation, cognitive resources and action required to complete a task
- resilience is our ability to cope with adversity by using their psychological adaptation capacity
- optimism is a positive explanatory style used in response to an event and the attributes associated with the event.
